A recent video making the rounds on YouTube features a chilling firsthand account from a border patrol agent who had a terrifying run-in with what many would call a Dogman, and the details are enough to make your skin crawl. The story was shared by the agent, who chose to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, and it took place during his early days of training along the Arizona-California border near Mexico.
According to the account, the agent was riding along with his field training officer (FTO) in a Ford truck, getting familiar with the checkpoints, hot spots, and terrain. It was a long shift, the kind that runs from daylight into the early morning hours, and they were cruising down dirt roads checking known areas where immigrants and smugglers often pass through. One particular gully served as a kind of waypoint, a stopover spot where people would rest or get picked up on the other side of the border.
When they reached the turnaround at the end of this dirt road, something felt off. There were no signs of people, no trash, no water bottles, nothing. That alone was unusual. As they flipped on their spotlights to turn around, the headlights illuminated something dark and furry off in the distance, maybe 40 or 50 yards away. At first, they thought it might be a bear or a coyote, but the FTO's demeanor changed quickly. His eyes got big, and he urgently told the trainee they needed to leave. Whatever it was, the seasoned officer recognized it immediately.
They crept closer anyway, curiosity getting the better of them. When they got within about 30 yards and flipped on the bright lights from the light bar, the creature stood up. What the agent initially thought was a large man in a fur coat turned around to reveal a head that looked like a German Shepherd or a wolf, all black, with amber eyes that caught the light. It was massively muscular, with broad shoulders, and it pivoted on its haunches with its paws out front like a dog sitting down. But this was no dog. It was four or five times the size of any normal canine.
Then it stood up on its hind legs. The agent described it as towering, with a presence that was almost confrontational. It stared right at them, as if sizing them up. After what felt like an eternity but was probably just a couple of seconds, the creature started walking toward the truck. Its strides were enormous, and it was closing the distance fast. The windows were half rolled down, and out of pure instinct, the agent threw the truck into reverse, missed it, threw it into park, and revved the engine. The Dogman responded by opening its mouth slightly, hunching over, and serpentining toward them in a zigzag pattern, almost like it was stalking prey.
Panicked, the agent finally got the truck into reverse, backed out, and did a J-turn to get out of there. In the rearview mirror, he could see its teeth and eyes illuminated by the red glow of the tail lights. It was close, just a couple of feet off the back of the truck. He heard a thump on the tailgate before he floored it, tearing down the dirt road at high speed, crashing over bushes and kicking up gravel until the creature was no longer visible in the mirrors.
Back at the station, the FTO was visibly shaken. He told the trainee emphatically: don't talk about it, don't put anything in the report, just say the area was clear. He went further, warning that there are things in the desert that don't make sense, things that agents see but never report. He mentioned that migrants sometimes talk about "los Lobos" or the "Big Hairy Man" or strange figures in the desert, and the advice was always the same: tell them there's no such thing and move on. The FTO made it clear that people who try to report unusual sightings, whether it's creatures or UFOs, don't last long in the job.
The agent almost broke the silence when he went to talk to the shift supervisor, but he caught his FTO shaking his head "no" in the background and swallowed the words. He went on to have other strange experiences during his time on the border, including seeing unusual lights in the sky and, months later, something he described as looking like a Sasquatch running across the road. But that first encounter with the Dogman stuck with him the most.
This kind of testimony from a trained law enforcement observer is exactly the type of account that keeps the conversation about cryptids alive. Border patrol agents work in some of the most remote and rugged terrain in the country, and their experiences often go unreported because of the very culture described in this story. The idea that there are things in the desert that even seasoned officers refuse to acknowledge speaks volumes.
For anyone interested in the full breakdown, the video is worth a watch. The storyteller does a great job setting the scene and letting the agent's words speak for themselves. It's a reminder that sometimes the most credible witnesses are the ones who never wanted to come forward in the first place.
