Saskatchewan Horseback Trip Ends with Mysterious Satyr-like Creature Encounter

So I was scrolling through YouTube the other night when I stumbled across something that gave me chills. A channel called Spaced Out Radio shared a story that honestly sounds like it came straight out of a folklore book, except the person telling it was a modern-day camper in the wilds of Saskatchewan.
The story comes from a man who planned a three-day horseback camping trip in the rural municipality of Canwood with a friend. Right from the start, things were off. His old white gelding, normally calm and reliable, started bucking, wailing, and trying to bite the moment they hit the trail. Meanwhile, his friend's usually energetic mare went completely silent and kept her head down the whole way to their first stop. Horse behavior like that is often one of the first red flags in cryptid encounters, and for good reason. Horses have been documented reacting to unseen presences in countless witness accounts across North America, often before the humans involved even notice anything unusual.
When they set up camp that first evening, the camper discovered his bedroll and hat were missing from where he'd tied them to his saddle. The leather cord hadn't snapped naturally, either. It had been crudely sawn in half. He found his hat about 80 feet from the trail, and when he picked it up, the smell nearly knocked him sideways. He described it as a mixture of burnt hair and rotten milk. His friend's boots had been moved from outside the tent and reeked of the same awful stench. They tried covering the items with snow just to block it out.
Now, here's where it gets really interesting. The next morning, they noticed the mare was covered in leaves stuck to her skin with what looked like tree sap. There was no leaking sap anywhere nearby, and the gelding was completely clean. When they tried peeling the leaves off, the mare became aggressive and even tried to bite, almost as if she was protecting them. The camper's friend mentioned woodland spirits being known for behavior like that, and while the narrator wasn't quick to believe in such things, the mare's reaction made him reconsider.
That second night is when things escalated. Around 3 a.m., the camper got up and caught that same rancid smell again. Whatever had caused it had followed them. He grabbed a hunting rifle and stepped behind a tree to relieve himself, and that's when he saw a shadow move slowly behind another tree about 40 to 50 feet away. He hummed low, trying to get it to move or breathe so he could identify it. The thing echoed his melody back in a guttural sound. Nothing natural does that.
When he called out asking who was there, the rotting odor came back so strong he started gagging. His friend came running from the tent just as he keeled over vomiting. The friend pointed a flashlight into the trees and yelled, and the thing ran. The camper says he saw what looked like a man but with an animal's head. He describes it as resembling a satyr from Greek mythology, about the height of a man, with legs like a horse or goat, skinny limbs, and hairy, especially around the lower body.
Satyrs in folklore have a long history across multiple cultures, often described as forest-dwelling beings with human-like upper bodies and goat-like lower halves. While most mainstream researchers focus on Sasquatch-type hominids, there are plenty of witness accounts out there describing bipedal or semi-bipedal entities with hooved or goat-like features. Some researchers have even suggested connections between satyr legends and surviving populations of unknown hominids or even relict populations of ancient species that mainstream science hasn't catalogued. The fact that this witness was experienced with the area and knew the local wildlife makes the account stand out. He specifically ruled out wolves, cougars, and coyotes based on behavior and scent.
The video is worth checking out if you're into cryptid encounters that don't fit the usual categories. The host's reaction at the end is pretty priceless too, especially when he says "That is creepy, Lon. That is absolutely creepy." You can find it over on the Spaced Out Radio channel.
