There's something undeniably compelling about a location with layers of history, and the recent investigation at Dowo Lake by the Native Oklahoma Bigfoot Research Organization delivers exactly that. This follow-up expedition, led by Ryan White alongside fellow investigators Evans Bailey, Chris Ramsey, and Scott Star, dives deep into a spot that's been generating intense reports since October 2024.
The backstory alone is worth the price of admission. Dowo Lake sits on land once controlled by an oil company that has since pulled out, leaving it open for public use. But here's where it gets interesting - back in the day, this place was a full-blown boom town with a ballroom where folks would swim, dance, and gather for community events. People dressed in period clothing with parasols, and a little train brought visitors from Haleyville. The whole operation shut down during World War II in the 1940s, likely because so many people were off at war. The ballroom hasn't existed since the mid-40s, but the energy of that era seems to linger.
One of the most fascinating bits comes from a local whose father used to fish out there at 2 or 3 in the morning by himself. He swore he could hear people frolicking in the water - even though no one was there. He never heard music from the old ballroom, but he consistently heard voices and activity when the place was empty. Whether that's residual energy from the past or something else entirely, it's the kind of detail that makes you pause.
Now, onto the main event. The witness who reached out to the No Bro Facebook page described encounters with a creature estimated between 7 to 9 feet tall with blondish-colored hair. The activity described is the kind that keeps researchers up at night - high-pitched howling louder and higher than a wolf, small rocks being thrown, the unsettling feeling of being watched accompanied by hair standing on end, and even something taking down a wild hog. That's not a casual encounter. That's an active, ongoing presence.
The investigators documented some seriously intriguing finds during their walkthrough. They came across what appears to be a large footprint - described as showing a heel, instep, and front of the foot, with a partial shoe print overlapping it. The size comparison to a human foot is striking, and the investigators noted that if a 600-pound creature stepped in that moist ground, it might just collapse under the weight, which is exactly what it looks like.
Tree breaks are everywhere in this area, but the pattern is what makes them significant. As one investigator points out, if it were wind damage, you'd see more of it. Instead, there are isolated breaks - trees snapped 10 to 12 feet off the ground with surrounding trees completely untouched. One particularly interesting break is twisted and tucked between two trees in a way that wind simply couldn't accomplish. There's also what appears to be a possible nesting area where something could crawl back up and under, and stick structures laid horizontally across branches.
The eyewitness photos the team reviewed show tracks with visible toes, wide and flat impressions, and depth that suggests significant weight. There's also photographic evidence of tree breaks and structures that the witness has been documenting.
One of the creepiest moments comes when the investigators discuss a spot where the witness and his father were loading weapons from their pickup truck. They dropped a .3006 shell and couldn't find it. Days later, they returned to the same spot, and that bullet came flying at them from out of nowhere - hitting one of them and dropping to the ground. That's the kind of detail that separates a routine investigation from something truly unsettling.
The team also found a dead gar fish with evenly cut marks, which raises questions about whether it was a fisherman cutting bait or something else entirely. And the terrain itself - with the ability to follow Brushy Creek all the way to Hartzhorn, potentially 14 miles away on an ATV - suggests this creature has a vast territory to roam.
This is the kind of investigation that reminds us why we keep searching. The combination of historical context, consistent witness reports, physical evidence, and that lingering feeling of being watched in a place with this much history... it's a recipe for something worth paying attention to. The full video is definitely worth checking out for anyone interested in active research locations with serious historical depth.
