Bigfoot Sightings Surge Across North America with New Reports

So, I just came across this video that's been making the rounds, and honestly, I had to share what was discussed because it's covering some seriously compelling stuff happening right now in the world of Sasquatch research. The host over at Spooky Southern Tea breaks down what can only be described as a massive moment for our community, and there are several stories here that deserve a closer look.
One of the first things she brings up is a theory that's been floating around for years: when UFO activity spikes, so do cryptid sightings. With all the government UFO disclosures happening lately, it makes you wonder if there's something to that correlation. And 2026 has been absolutely wild for Sasquatch encounters.
Let's start with Ohio. Back in March, eight separate sightings erupted in Portage County within just five days. That's not a typo. Eight. And this story got picked up by CNN, Fox News, and Newsweek, which tells you this wasn't just some random person making a TikTok in the woods. When mainstream media starts covering something, you know it's significant.
Then there's the documentary news. A film called "Capturing Bigfoot" premiered at South by Southwest, one of the biggest film festivals in the country. The documentary claims to have new evidence about the most famous Bigfoot footage ever recorded, and apparently, it's tearing the community apart. People are divided, and that's always interesting because it means the content is provocative enough to spark real debate.
Now, the story that really got my attention was the one covered by The Guardian. This happened in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, and here's what makes it stand out: Chatham-Kent isn't deep wilderness. It's flat farmland, one of Ontario's least forested regions. We're talking wide-open spaces, crop fields, rivers, and valleys. This isn't the Pacific Northwest, and it sure isn't Appalachia. So when witnesses report something there, it raises eyebrows.
The first witness described the moment perfectly: "The birds stopped, the wind seemed to die down, and it got oddly quiet." That's when they noticed movement ahead. Then came a strong earthy smell, followed by a massive figure stepping from behind the trees. The next morning, a second witness in the same area reported seeing two creatures near sunrise, one big and one noticeably smaller. The smaller one had a prominent cinnamon coloration, and there was that same earthy stench. But here's the part that gave me chills: the witness knocked on wood to scare them off, and they knocked back. Think about that for a second. A bear doesn't knock back. A deer doesn't knock back. Something that understands communication knocked back. Researchers noted that flat farmland is exactly the kind of transitional habitat large animals move through when traveling between territories, which raises a question nobody really wants to ask out loud: where are they moving to?
Next up is East Texas. On June 13th, around 1:20 in the morning, a man named Dustin Dean was driving down a two-lane highway with dense woods on either side. He had his bright lights on when something stepped out of the forest right into the road. Now, Sasquatch aren't typically known for just strolling into the middle of a highway like they're hitching a ride. They're usually glimpsed at the edges, slipping into the trees. But this one was bold. It was right there in the open. With his brights on, Dean was able to identify it as a Sasquatch rather than a dogman or a bear. Something is shifting. These beings are getting bolder, and with all the disclosure happening, it makes you wonder if there's a parallel here.
Then there's the Michigan Beach story, and this one is honestly delightful in the most impossible way. Two sisters, Diane and Denise, were sightseeing near Whitefish Point Lighthouse on Lake Superior in Paradise, Michigan. They had their Doberman with them, named Snoop Dogg, which I absolutely love. The day before the actual sighting, Snoop Dogg had already been spooked at the beach. This dog didn't scare easily, but something had him rattled. Diane knew something was off because of how her dog was behaving.
The next evening at dusk, both sisters saw a large, dark, upright figure on the beach near a pile of driftwood. They described it as having a very big lumberjack build with no neck. When they pointed a flashlight at it, the figure ducked down, which means it was aware of them and reacted to the light. Snoop Dogg jumped into action, pulling them back toward the lighthouse, and they ran. Always listen to your dogs, folks. Good thing they paid attention.
The BFRO investigator who looked into this noted there was an active search and rescue operation happening in the woods nearby at the same time, involving helicopters and dog teams over a four-mile area. The investigator's theory is that the activity in the woods must have flushed something out toward the beach.
What ties all of this together is the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization and the Bigfoot Mapping Project, which has cataloged over 16,600 reported sightings across North America. And that's just the documented cases. Most people who have an encounter never tell anyone. I know plenty of people, myself included, who have stories they've kept quiet about for years. So when you think about 16,600 documented reports, imagine how many undocumented ones are out there.
The video goes into more detail on each of these stories, and if you're as fascinated by this wave of sightings as I am, it's worth checking out. There's something happening right now, and 2026 is shaping up to be a year we won't forget.
