Squatchable Exclusive: Sasquatch Chronicles ft. Les Stroud
Get ready, Squatchers! We've got a fascinating story for you today from the Sasquatch Chronicles featuring Les Stroud. In this episode, Les talks to Norm, a retired California Highway Patrolman, who had an encounter back in 1958 on his father's property in California. This was before the Patterson-Gimlin film and before many people were talking about Sasquatch outside of Native Americans.
Norm takes us back to that moment, telling us what he was doing and walking us through what happened. The encounter happened on the Walnut Ranch, located in Lake County, Northern California. The ranch is surrounded by dense brush, and Norm grew up there, living there from the age of four and a half until he went off to college at 18.
One evening, Norm, his brother, and a friend were driving around the ranch, checking the irrigation system. As they were driving, they saw something on two legs walking through the orchard. They couldn't see much, but they could see that it was taking off at a diagonal across the orchard. Norm accelerated the old Chevy truck and tried to intercept the creature, but it was too fast.
Norm and his friends followed the creature, and they saw it run up a steep hill. When they reached the top of the hill, they saw the creature coming towards them. It was about seven or eight feet tall, completely covered in hair, and had a rounded head with a broad but long nose. It didn't have a barrel chest like many witnesses report, but it was more lean. Norm described its lips as thinner than in other photographs he's seen of Sasquatch.
This encounter always bothered Norm, and it's interesting to hear his thoughts on the Patterson-Gimlin film 10 years later.
