Teenage Hunter Encountered Mysterious Creature on Family Land

In the autumn of 2002, a young woman, who had just turned 16, received a compound bow as a gift and had been practicing all summer. She joined her father and older brother for a hunting trip to Grandpa Bobby's place in Michigan, a family property that had been in the family for generations. The group ventured into the public hunting lands, and the young woman noticed something was off. They came across tree breaks that were oddly evenly spaced, and it was evident they were not caused by wind damage. The group continued on, and they came across more tree breaks, spaced at almost regular intervals. It was then that the young woman noticed how much more thoughtful and quiet her father had become. He was watchful and very on guard, and it was clear he was not hunting for the usual game. The group walked slow and silent, and the young woman's father continued on, heading in a northeasterly direction. They came across two large X's of trees bent over the trail, with others pushed into the ground dotting the sides of the trail. The sight was unlike anything the young woman had ever seen before, and she couldn't imagine how someone could manage such a thing. The group huddled on the trail, and the young woman's father told them to make ready with their pistols. He told them to stay absolutely quiet and that he was going to scout up maybe 100-200 yards further up the trail but he wanted them to remain there. The young woman and her brother protested, but their father gave them a look that said "Be quiet."
