Wyoming, known for its vast wilderness and low population density, has long been a hotbed for Bigfoot sightings. The state's indigenous tribes, including the Shoshone, Crow, and Arapaho, have stories of a large, hairy creature that roams the forests and mountains. Recently, there have been several compelling sightings in Wyoming that have caught the attention of the Bigfoot community.
One of the most recent sightings occurred near Jackson, Wyoming in the Bridger Teton National Forest. In October 2020, two hikers reported hearing deep, guttural growls followed by a series of loud wood knocks. When they turned to look, they saw a large, dark figure standing among the trees, at least 8 feet tall. The hikers found several large footprints in the snow before leaving the area.
In June 2019, three campers in the Wind River Range near Pinedale, Wyoming, had a similar experience. While setting up camp near a remote lake, they saw a massive dark figure moving across a rocky slope in the distance. The creature moved effortlessly over the rugged terrain, occasionally stopping to look in their direction. One camper described the motion as too smooth and deliberate to be a bear. The group later found large footprints embedded in the damp soil near their campsite.
In March 2021, a park ranger at Yellowstone National Park near Mammoth Hot Springs heard a series of long, echoing howls coming from a valley below. Initially thinking it was a wolf, the ranger realized the sound was far deeper and louder than any known animal in the park. When he scanned the tree line with binoculars, he caught a brief glimpse of a tall, upright figure moving quickly through the trees before disappearing.
The Big Horn Mountains located in northern Wyoming are known for their dense forests, deep canyons, and remote wilderness areas. The region has a long history of Bigfoot sightings. In September 2022, a group of four hunters had an encounter they will never forget. As they set up camp near Shell Canyon, they heard branches snapping and heavy footfalls circling their campsite. Using night vision equipment, they spotted a tall, broad-shouldered figure moving between the trees. When they tried to approach, the figure let out a low growl and disappeared into the darkness.
In May 2023, a group of six hikers in Medicine Bow National Forest near Laramie, Wyoming, had a terrifying encounter. As they set up camp near Mirror Lake, they heard a series of loud, echoing wood knocks coming from a nearby ridge. As the sun set, they noticed a large dark silhouette standing at the tree line watching them. One witness, Dr. Robert C, a wildlife ecologist, described the encounter as unlike anything he had ever seen. The creature was at least 9 feet tall with long arms that almost reached its knees. It didn't move like a bear or a person. It was something else entirely.
The experiences of these hikers and campers leave us with more questions than answers. Does Bigfoot still exist, or is he simply a product of overactive imaginations? The evidence suggests that there is something strange and mysterious lurking in Wyoming's wilderness.
