Bigfoot Encounter in 1983: A Sunny Afternoon Surprise in South Hill, WA

Roland, who was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Washington State, had never heard of Bigfoot or Bigfoot stories prior to his encounter. He and a friend were walking along Old Logging Trail, which ran parallel to power lines, when something caught Roland's attention. He noticed a ditch filled with Scotch broom, a plant that is common in Washington, and had a feeling that something was behind him. When he turned around, he found himself face-to-face with a Bigfoot, just 8-10 feet away. The creature had big black eyes, a chimp-like face with pronounced lips, and the color of an Irish Setter. Its hands were also the same color as its face and were about the size of a human hand. Roland was surprised and ran past his friend, who was walking ahead of him. His friend, not knowing what was happening, started yelling and running behind him. They both ran all the way to Roland's house. The encounter happened during a beautiful sunny afternoon, around 3:00-3:30 PM, making it clear that Bigfoot can be seen during the day. The creature's eyes were the most striking feature for Roland, and he described them as "really dark colored eyes." Roland's description of the Bigfoot's face is particularly interesting. He said it had a "chimp-like face" with "pronounced lips," and its hair was the color of an Irish Setter. He also mentioned that the creature's head came down to its shoulders, and it had broad shoulders and a big chest.
