In a recent video posted to YouTube, a traveler stumbled upon an incredible sight in rural Ohio. While driving down the highway, the driver's GPS displayed a giant Bigfoot icon, leading them to investigate. To their surprise, they found a massive wooden carving of a Sasquatch, named Nelson, standing tall at 27 feet and spanning 18 feet across the shoulders.
Nelson was carved during the 2024 total solar eclipse by nine talented carvers from five different states. The project took 5.5 days to complete, using 300 feet of treated 2x4s and 5,000 board feet of poplar wood. The head alone weighs between 600 and 700 pounds, and the tractor and plow were incorporated into the design to honor Mercer County's agricultural background.
This impressive carving is located at the Mercer County Fairgrounds, near a pool and other fairground attractions. With Nelson's size 98 feet shoe size, he's hard to miss! If you find yourself in the area, be sure to stop by and take a photo with this magnificent Sasquatch.
The creator of the video couldn't contain their excitement, exclaiming, "This is the coolest thing I've ever seen, absolutely crazy!" It's always thrilling to discover new tributes to our favorite elusive creature, and Nelson is no exception.
While some may argue that Nelson is not a "real" Bigfoot, the sense of awe and excitement he inspires is undeniable. As Bigfoot believers, we welcome any and all representations of our beloved Sasquatch, whether they're discovered in the woods or skillfully crafted by talented artists.
