Bigfoot sightings continue to captivate the imagination of many, and North Carolina is no exception. With its vast forests and remote regions, the state offers the perfect setting for mysterious encounters. The YouTube channel Campfire Creepers - Stories Stranger Than Fiction has compiled a list of the top five most recent and most convincing Bigfoot sightings in North Carolina, and we're excited to share them with you.
Starting off at number five, we have the Appalachian Apparition in Pisgah National Forest near Asheville. In February 2021, two hikers reported seeing a large shadowy figure darting between ancient pines on a chilly, misty day. The cool, misty weather added an eerie quality to their brief encounter, making it a truly intriguing sighting.
Coming in at number four is the Uari Shadow in Uwharrie National Forest near Troy. In May 2020, three campers traversing a secluded trail reported hearing deep echoing footsteps followed by a fleeting glimpse of a large dark figure emerging from the thick underbrush. The cool, diffused light and calm, heavy atmosphere that day only heightened the sense of foreboding in the forest.
At number three, we have the Coastal Creature in Croatan National Forest near New Burn. In August 2021, a lone camper reported seeing a massive hairy silhouette moving swiftly through the dense foliage along a little-used trail. The oppressive humidity and gentle rustle of leaves created an almost surreal atmosphere, intensifying the eerie nature of the sighting.
The Linville Gorge Legend in Linville Gorge Wilderness Area near Boone takes the number two spot. In July 2022, four hikers reported hearing resonant heavy footsteps along the rocky paths before catching a glimpse of a towering shadowy figure that quickly vanished among the sheer cliffs. The sultry weather and rugged terrain added to the ominous aura of their encounter.
And finally, at number one, we have the Nantahala Night Watch in Nantahala National Forest near Bryson City. In May 2023, a family camping trip turned into a spine-chilling encounter when they discovered enormous freshly made footprints along a well-trodden trail. As dusk settled and a dense fog rolled in, the group witnessed a towering hairy figure emerge from the shadows, pausing for a moment as if to observe them before silently retreating back into the forest.
