In a recent video from the YouTube channel BusanKevin, host Kevin O’Shea explores the legend of Hibagon, Japan’s very own Bigfoot. Kevin interviews Canadian author Kyle Brink, who has been living in Hiroshima prefecture for many years and has written a book about Hibagon.
Kyle shares that Hibagon, which translates to “the Hiba monster,” is said to roam Mount Hiba in Hiroshima prefecture. The mountain is significant in Japanese folklore as it is mentioned in the Kojiki, the oldest Japanese text, as the burial place of the mother goddess Isanami.
In 1968, Hibagon made headlines when a Bigfoot-like creature was spotted multiple times around Mount Hiba. Kyle became interested in Hibagon after he saw a sea monster off the coast of Japan and decided to look into other unexplained phenomena in the area.
Kyle and his sister visited Mount Hiba and found evidence that Hibagon is still alive and well in the area. Kyle describes Hibagon as being similar to the North American Sasquatch, with a skull and photos of a carcass having been discovered in 2017.
As a fellow Bigfoot enthusiast, I am always excited to learn about new legends and sightings from around the world. The story of Hibagon is particularly intriguing due to its connection to Japanese folklore and the evidence that Kyle and his sister found on Mount Hiba.
If you’re interested in learning more about Hibagon and seeing the evidence for yourself, be sure to check out the full video on BusanKevin’s YouTube channel. And who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired to plan a trip to Mount Hiba and see if you can spot Hibagon for yourself!
