Bigfoot enthusiasts and researchers alike are well-versed in the infamous Patterson-Gimlin film, but many may not be aware of the events that led up to its discovery. Thanks to a video from The Sasquatch Archives, we can now take a closer look at the Blue Creek Mountain track find that spurred Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin to Bluff Creek in October 1967.
Before the Patterson-Gimlin film, John Green and Rene Dahinden received a call about Sasquatch footprints found on Onion Mountain Road. Although the prints were disappointing, they left their contact information and returned home to Canada. The next day, they received a call from Bud Ryerson, the lead contractor working on the road in the area, who informed them that more prints had been found on Blue Creek Mountain. Green and Dahinden quickly sold what they could and chartered a plane, bringing a dog handler and a dog with them. They were later joined by Anthropologist Don Abbott from British Columbia and the airplane pilot.
Although there isn't much in the way of a photographic record of the Onion Mountain evidence, the Blue Creek Mountain track find is well-documented. John Green snapped some photos, and Renee Dahinden took a video camera with them. Unfortunately, one of Green's camera rolls was mistakenly opened by Don Abbott's son when he got back to British Columbia, ruining the film. However, we still have some still photos and film of the event.
Renee Dahinden returned to the area several times, hoping to spot a Sasquatch. In 1993, he made a video with a handicam, retracing his steps and talking about the track find. The video is over an hour long, but it provides valuable insight into the events that led up to the Patterson-Gimlin film.
I encourage our readers to watch the video and learn more about the Blue Creek Mountain track find. It's always exciting to uncover new information about our favorite elusive creature, and this video provides a unique perspective on the events that led up to one of the most famous Sasquatch sightings in history.
