Hunter's Encounter: Mysterious Knocks in Idaho's Elk Hunting Territory

Excited to finally see some sign of animals, Dan followed the trail southeast. As he was walking, he heard five distinct knocks coming from a clearing below him. The knocks were evenly spaced and sounded like they were coming from a large animal. Dan was initially confused and thought that someone was beating on a tree, but as he listened, he heard two more knocks from the same location. He decided to investigate and started making his way down the slope. As he approached the clearing, he saw elk sign and heard another knock. He was now convinced that he was dealing with an animal, but he couldn't identify what kind of animal it was. Dan approached the clearing cautiously and listened for any sounds. He heard nothing, but he could see that the grassy areas below were clear of any animals. He decided to continue his hunt and headed back up the slope. This encounter is intriguing as it suggests that there may be a large, unidentified animal in the area. The knocks that Dan heard were distinct and evenly spaced, which suggests that they were made by a large animal.
