A tragic incident has recently occurred in Washington State, involving two men who went missing while searching for the elusive Sasquatch. The men, both from Portland, Oregon, were reported missing on Christmas Day and were set to return from their search in eastern Skamania County on Christmas Eve. After a three-day search involving over 60 people, their bodies were found in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, located in the southwestern part of Washington state. According to the Skamania County Sheriff's Office, the cause of their deaths appears to be exposure due to the harsh weather conditions and their ill-preparedness. The area had experienced rounds of snow and rain, with temperatures in the 30s across the Cascades in the days leading up to the men being reported missing. The search for the men also took place amid difficult weather conditions, with freezing temperatures, snow, and high water levels. Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot, is a large hairy figure that resembles a human and is thought to live in the Northwestern parts of the US and Canada. The existence of Sasquatch has been debated for decades, with many people reporting sightings of the creature. More than 700 reports of Sasquatch sightings in Washington State have been submitted to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO). In Skamania County, harming Sasquatch is punishable by a $1,000 fine and can include jail time, according to the County's Chamber of Commerce. This law is meant to protect the mysterious creature and to prevent hunters with large beards from accidentally getting shot. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office search and rescue team spent three days searching for the missing men, who tragically passed away while looking for Sasquatch in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest on Christmas. However, just hours after the search was over, nearly all of the team's rescue equipment was stolen. The search and rescue organization is now asking for public donations on GoFundMe and Facebook to help restock the vital supplies. The stolen equipment includes first responder grade equipment for technical rope rescue, equipment for packaging patients in a litter, an AED automated external defibrillator, custom wilderness medical kits for remote emergencies, rescue kits for hypothermic patients, generators and other critical tools, a projector for training, and other essential rescue equipment.
