A video posted on the YouTube channel Old Hillbilly Horror has been making the rounds among the Bigfoot community, and it's easy to see why. The video, titled "21 TRUE Terrifying Park Ranger Horror Stories (Dogman, Sasquatch, Wendigo, Werewolf, Bigfoot, Creepy)," shares the story of a park ranger named Dan Mercer who encountered something truly terrifying in the Ozarks during the summer of 1995.
Dan and his partner, Lou Harris, were stationed at a small outpost near the Mark Twain National Forest. On a humid and oppressive morning, they received a call about two bodies found near Big Creek. The bodies appeared to have been savagely attacked by an animal, with deep claw marks surrounding them. The claw marks resembled those of a massive dog, but Dan couldn't shake the feeling that it was something more.
As the search party investigated the scene, they found more claw marks, freshly gouged into the bark of a towering pine tree. Dan couldn't ignore the feeling that they were dealing with something otherworldly, something that resembled the local legend of the Dogman, a creature that roamed the forests half wolf and half man.
As night fell, Dan and Lou stayed behind to keep watch near their camp by the creek. That's when they heard the low growl, unlike anything they had ever heard before. It was deeper, laced with something almost human. Suddenly, a dark shape lunged at them, eyes gleaming yellow in the moonlight. Dan raised his rifle and fired, hitting the creature. It let out a howl before disappearing into the darkness.
Lou was injured but alive, and Dan knew they needed to understand what they were dealing with. They returned to the forest one last time, armed and ready. They waited near the creek, and eventually, the Dogman emerged from the shadows. Dan fired his rifle, and the creature fell, leaving a trail of blood. They never found the body, but the attacks stopped, and the forest fell silent once more.
Dan's story is a chilling reminder of the dangers that lurk in the woods. While many of us in the Bigfoot community are passionate about finding and documenting evidence of Sasquatch, we must always remember that the forest is a wild and unpredictable place. It's good to approach any encounter with caution and respect for the unknown.
