In an effort to learn more about the possible Sasquatch habitat, Melanie began leaving food offerings for the creatures. She would fill a potato sack with dried meat, fruit, vegetables, and nuts and hang it in a tree for them to find. The food would always be taken, and Melanie continued to leave offerings for several years.
