The first account is from Benjamin Wilder, who had a close encounter with a large, shaggy creature while sleeping in his car in an uninhabited area of Humboldt County in 1964. The creature, covered in 3-inch hair and making pig-like noises, startled Wilder and caused him to honk his car horn to scare it away. In Trinity County, California, a group of friends heard a loud, whale-like cry coming from outside their house one cold night in November 1964. The sound seemed to originate from the top of some nearby rock bluffs, and the next morning, the group discovered a cleared area with small trees pulled out of the ground and thrown to the side. A weird smell lingered in the area, and the friends couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The final story comes from an individual who grew up on a mountain along the Eel River in the King's Range. They recall seeing a large ape-like creature as a child and experiencing a strange feeling years later while living on the same property with their son.
