Have you ever heard of the Dark Watchers, Pukwudgies, or the Tennessee Wildman? If not, you're in for a treat! The YouTube channel Cryptid Account recently released a video about these three mysterious cryptids, and I was thrilled to learn more about them. The Dark Watchers are shadowy figures seen along the Santa Lucia mountains in California, particularly at dusk. They are always cloaked in dark robes and appear to silently observe travelers from ridges or peaks before vanishing when approached. The Dark Watchers have been a part of local folklore for centuries, with stories of their presence dating back to early Spanish settlers. Even famed author John Steinbeck referenced them in his short story "Flight." Pukwudgies, on the other hand, are mischievous goblin-like creatures from Wampanoag folklore in New England and the Midwest. They stand around 2 to 3 feet tall and have a troll-like appearance, sometimes described as looking like porcupines from behind and humanoid from the front. Initially friendly toward humans, their relationship soured when they became jealous of the Wampanoag people's admiration for the giant Maushop. They turned to causing mischief, luring people to their deaths, kidnapping children, and setting traps. Lastly, the Tennessee Wildman is a fixture of Appalachian folklore, with sightings continuing into the modern day. Described as a hairy humanlike figure with red eyes and a foul smell, the Wildman is far more aggressive and confrontational than Bigfoot. Some suggest the Tennessee Wildman might be a cousin to Bigfoot, but where Bigfoot is generally shy and elusive, the wild man is far more territorial and willing to chase intruders out of his woods. I was fascinated by the stories and legends surrounding these cryptids, and I encourage all Bigfoot believers to check out the Cryptid Account's video on YouTube. Who knows, maybe you'll be inspired to do some research of your own on these mysterious creatures!
