A fascinating account of a possible encounter with the elusive Yeti has been brought to our attention, thanks to the YouTube channel Creek Devil. In a video titled "YETI FRIGHT | Bigfoot | Episode 90," the story of Major Waddell and the Yeti is narrated, based on a tale of footprints in the Himalayan snow written by Micah Hanks on May 9, 2019.
The story takes us back to 1887 when Major Lawrence A. Waddell, a British Indian army officer with a keen interest in the sciences, was on leave and trekking through the steep mountains of Northeastern India. As the snow fell heavily during their journey, Waddell and his team stumbled upon unusual footprints in the snow that excited the Tibetan crew. Waddell described these tracks as leading across their path and up to the higher peaks, allegedly belonging to the hairy wild men believed to live amongst the eternal snows.
Waddell's account is considered one of the earliest written by a Westerner that appears to describe the famous Yeti or Abominable Snowman. This legendary creature is said to haunt the crags and crevices among the Himalayas, occasionally making tracks across the frigid snow fields at higher altitudes.
Ivan Sanderson, a notable chronicler of sasquatchy encounters, later introduced the legendary creature in his book "Abominable Snowmen: Legend Come to Life." Sanderson noted Waddell's discovery with interest and wondered about the creature that made the prints and why it decided to cross the pass.
Waddell, however, was skeptical and believed that the footprints belonged to the great yellow snow bear, Ursus isabellinus, which is highly carnivorous and known to live in the region. Nonetheless, his account has inspired countless armchair historians and Bigfoot enthusiasts over the years.
