When Leek arrived, he found the village completely deserted. Meals were still cooking over the fires, and clothes were left half-mended. The sled dogs were found starved to death, and all the graves in the area had been dug up, with the bodies missing. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were called to investigate, and they found the village exactly as Leek had described.
