Have you ever heard of the memekwesiwak, the elusive, diminutive beings said to inhabit the lakes and rivers of northern Manitoba? If not, you're in for a treat. Recently, a video was posted to YouTube that features three subscriber encounters with these little people in Canada. I was thrilled to come across this video and share it with our community of Bigfoot believers. The first story comes from a member of the Cross Lake Cree Nation who had a strange encounter while on his trap line. He and three friends built a fire and shared some beer when they heard rustling in the forest. To their surprise, they came upon a tiny man crouched in the grass. The little person was described as having dark, deep-set eyes, a round face, and mumbling in a high-pitched voice. The creature was as solid as a boulder and left a dusty hand print on the man's pants. This story has eerie parallels with both native and settler little people traditions. The Rock, Swampy, and Woodland Cree of northern Manitoba have a strong tradition of memekwesiwak, and the "dark, deep-set eyes" of the creature on Cross Lake evoke indigenous dwarf legends across the country. The dwarf's physical prowess is another common motif in native 'little people' lore, with some stories describing their arms as "like bands of iron". The second story comes from a resident of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, who saw a group of goblin-type beings around 3.5 feet tall, wearing simple clothes and triangular hats. These little people were not obeying the laws of physics and gave the witness an untrustworthy look. After the sighting, a blood-curdling scream was heard from the horse corral. This video is a fascinating glimpse into the world of little people in Canada. It's always exciting to come across new stories and encounters, and this video does not disappoint. I encourage all of our Squatchable readers to watch the video and share their thoughts. Who knows, maybe you'll have your own encounter with the memekwesiwak! Excitement level: 7 out of 10.
