5 - Bigfoot - Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is a mythical cross between a man and a giant ape. Some say the government knows of the existence of these creatures, but covers it up by spreading propaganda about unethical human/animal hybridization. Some also say that the government is trying to suppress a home movie made in 1967 which depicts the creature in a way that could not have been faked with the level of technology at the time. Scientists also claim that North American ecology could not support such a creature, however they do not take genetic rearrangement into consideration. While still others believe the government covers up the stories so as not to have the public freak out.

4 - Global Warming - Some opponents of global warming feel that the issue is not about science, but about politics, money, and power. And because the global warming revolves around carbon dioxide, those who have the power to regulate it will also have a tremendous economic and social impact. Researchers who have read through hacked e-mails from leading climate scientists have discovered many disturbing details, such as: data manipulation to support a sudden increase in the Earth?s temperature, private doubts from the scientists on whether the Earth is actually warming, suppression of evidence contradicting the global warming hypothesis, and suppression of dissenting scientists by removing them from the peer review process. One of the leading scientists also wrote ?we need to get some broad based support, to capture the public?s imagination. That, of course, entails getting loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have?Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.?

3 - Moon Landing - Upon being the first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong famously said ?that?s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind?, or did he? Some believe the US government was so intent on beating the Russians to the moon that they faked the entire thing. They say Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin acted out their mission on a stage in Area 51. They claim that since NASA was the only one with the footage, it could not be independently verified. They point to a few inconsistencies in the footage, such as the direction of the shadow in comparison to the sun?s known position at the time, and that it appeared the American flag they planted was moving, which would be impossible in the vacuum of space. These claims have been largely disproven, most notably when the Myth Busters television show recreated the scenario and found the conspiracy claims

lacked evidence.

2 - 9/11 ? Several conspiracy theories exist in relation to the attacks on America on September 11, 2001. This day is etched into everyone?s memory as a day that thousands of innocent lives were lost. Mostly, the timeline of that day is accepted as fact to many ? however, there are a select few who believe there was more going on than just a terrorist attack. The theories range from the government having knowledge of the attacks before they happened to George W. Bush being the mastermind behind the attacks to the crazy theory that no planes actually hit anything that day, and the whole thing was staged. The theories can be found online and there have also been many documentaries made regarding this topic ? including Michael Moore?s Fahrenheit 911 and the Loose Change film. Believers of these theories call themselves ?truthers,? and despite the evidence contradicting these theories, they stand by their stories.

1 - JFK?s Death ? You can?t have a list of conspiracy theories without including JFK?s assassination. The death of John F. Kennedy has been debated for decades and there are so many theories that exist. The first, most well-known theory involves a second shooter.
